Tianjin (China), Sept 1 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, and called for an early end to the Ukraine conflict.
During their discussions, Modi emphasized that the “world wants the Ukraine war to end quickly” and underlined that humanity is collectively yearning for peace. He welcomed recent peace initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis and urged all sides to act constructively to ensure stability in the region.
Reaffirming the strength of India-Russia relations, Modi noted that the two countries have always stood by each other during difficult times. He added that their strategic partnership remains crucial not just for bilateral cooperation but also for global peace and stability.
Modi also extended an invitation to Putin to visit India in December for a bilateral summit, signaling New Delhi’s intent to deepen its long-standing ties with Moscow despite global tensions.
The SCO summit brought together leaders from across Asia to discuss pressing regional and global issues, with the Ukraine conflict high on the agenda. Modi’s remarks reflect India’s consistent position of advocating dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation while maintaining strong relationships with both Western nations and Russia.
