Research shows diet & exercise outperform anti-diabetic medications in long-term diabetes control
A new US study has found that living a healthy lifestyle may be more effective in managing diabetes.
Researchers from the University of New Mexico & the University of Colorado followed over 3,000 people from 30 institutions for 3 years. Their goal? To see what works better, pills or a healthy lifestyle. The findings are published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology Journal. The result was clear – regular exercise, a balanced diet, and lifestyle changes helped reduce diabetes-related risks by 24% more than standard drugs like metformin, which reduces risks by 17%.
An interesting study sheds light on who consume dark chocolate often may have less risk of type 2 diabetes. Eating it may cut risks by 21% study finds. Dark and milk chocolate have a similar number of calories, but dark chocolate has higher cocoa content.
The cocoa content, we believe, is the major difference that contributes to the differential association between chocolate & diabetes. The study emphasizes that while medications are important, long-term control is better achieved through consistent lifestyle changes. This approach not only reduces health risks but also improves overall well-being.
